History of Learning P.E.A.C.E.

Learning P.E.A.C.E. is a unique program unlike any other on the market today. It was conceived in a school in Nova Scotia where Shirley Everett began by creating a curriculum for her own class, gathering ideas and information, and experimenting with activities and lesson plans committed to turning around the prevailing "me first" and "I don't care about you" attitude among young people today. In working together with the school principal at the time, who had lost her son as a result of a violent act of bullying at his school, Ms Everett helped to plant the seeds for what has grown into a thriving peace education movement.

Ms. Everett’s work, enthusiasm and above all success in the classroom soon became renowned. The program spread to other classes at her school. Before long she was asked to educate other teachers and school staffs in Canada and abroad and the teacher training program in Learning P.E.A.C.E. was born.

Mrs. Lisa Steindorf, an educator specializing in alternative learning methods, brought the concept to Europe and founded the Center for Peace Education dedicated to the expansion and teaching of the program Learning P.E.A.C.E. throughout North America and Europe . In Germany , schools in the Frankfurt metropolitan area as well in the infamous town of Erfurt , devastated by the killing of 17 teachers by a student in 2002, have implemented the program with significant results. At present educational institutions in Canada , northern Europe and the Caribbean are working with and successfully living the concept Learning P.E.A.C.E .
